Used McLaren P1 For Sale
Never in our wildest dreams would we have thought Formula 1 energy storage systems would be available on street legal cars. But if you need a carbon fiber hybrid supercar, you should look for a McLaren P1 for sale. Only 375 cars were produced, and they are among the hottest hypercars. The composite mono cage contains a 3.8-liter v8 engine along with twin turbochargers. Since 727 hp was not enough, a hybrid electric drive and battery pack are also included. At full charge, it delivers 904 hp and 727 lb-ft of torque. Electric assist can be called upon for instant torque with the Ipas system. At the press of a button, it delivers 177 hp and 192 lb-ft for overtaking your opponents.
A pure electric range is rated at 6.2 miles, but some owners have reported going further without awakening the V8. As the flagship of McLaren cars, the P1 MSRP was initially set at $1,350,000. Many owners purchased additional content from McLaren Special Operations, which pushed most used McLaren P1 prices well above $1.5 million. Because of the almost limitless options, no P1 listings are identical. Since the battery can be charged in only two hours, the car also makes for a practical city car for your urban commute. The recent sales prices at auction are a clear sign this is a great investment.
The $1.15 million 2015 P1 captured the ultra-high-end imaginations of 375 very wealthy people, selling out even before the first one was delivered. Why? Because it just might be one of the most amazing cars ever built. As an automotive racing team, McLaren has won everything over a 50- year span by being technology leaders, and that level of intensity and innovation is distilled down into its purest form. Two engines working in perfect synchronicity, the extraordinary low-end torque from the 176-horsepower electric motor propels you off the line while the 727-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 delivers the kind of throttle response and high-revving power that befits a supercar. You can also drive in full electric mode for up to six miles.
Every road car uses a carbon-fiber monocoque. With the P1, the body panels are also of the same material, keeping the dry weight down to 3,075 pounds. But when you hit the track, the aerodynamics will blow your mind. It works actively, with the rear wing and underbody flaps adjusting when needed to help you through the corners, and if you switch to ‘race’ mode the car drops by two inches, creating true ground-effect suction. At the same time, the rear wing moves back almost 12 inches. At that point, all you have to do is hold on.
This latest hypercar is arguably the best carbon-ceramic brake package on any road car and an amazingly intuitive traction control system. I don’t think there is a car you can drive faster and still feel it has more unexplored performance potential.
McLaren introduced us to their ultimate race car with the release of the P1 GTR. A track-only version of McLaren's world-renowned P1, this model’s livery is reminiscent of the F1 GTR, chassis #06R. The original #06R was one of seven legendary McLaren F1 GTRs to compete in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. The GTR is full of modifications, like a body that’s 80 millimeters wider and a new front splitter 50 millimeters lower. Other additions include dive planes ahead of the front wheels to help with overall airflow around the car, creating more downforce at speed. While these changes are relatively minor from a front glance, the rear of the car is where its individuality becomes obvious. The rear wing repositions itself continuously to accommodate the circ*mstances. In the racecar, a large fixed-height rear wing sits more than 400 millimeters above the car’s body, working seamlessly with the front aerodynamic flaps to increase overall downforce by over 10 percent. Without being hindered by street-legal exhaust and emissions equipment, the 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 is able to make 986 horsepower.
