REMEMBRANCES GEORGE WALTER BLEIER My God loving man, George Walter Bleier of Belton, MO went peacefully to his Maker February 7, 2014 at home, his loving wife by his side. We traveled much. He was a good com- panion, had a great sense of humor, was a very good dancer; was a good role model and he was my better half. George was born on 25th and Charlotte, Kansas City, MO June, 1923.
He attended and gradu- ated from Our Lady of Sorrows Elementary School and Westport High School in Kansas City, MO. He entered WWII in the Army Air Force and earned the rank of Sergeant and the medal for expert rifleman. George was on Iwo Jima when the war ended. He returned to civilian life and with to work at Bendix Corporation and retired Bendix- Honeywell after 32 years. George was part of the Bendix Skeet Shoot Club and was a member of IA Ma- chinist Union since 1946.
He also was the author of the following poem; which earned choice award. butterfly, butterfly, how beautiful you are Fluttering over the flowers, near and far. So many colors to choose, the reds, yellows, pinks and blues. No ballerina can match your grace as you dance silently about With those large colorful wings. and Edna B. Clancy. As an girl, she was an skater and skier and en- joyed all winter sports and activities on the beautiful lakes of the North Woods. She attended St. Francis High School in Traverse City, where she was the valedictorian of the Class of 1959.
She went on to the University of Michigan, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and received a degree in speech pathology in 1963. While at the of she met her husband Ed. They married on August 10, 1963 and started life in New York City, with Kay teaching in the New York area public schools. Together they had three children, Michael, Patti and Jennifer, of whom Kay was so proud. In 1966, Kay and Ed returned to Kansas City, where Kay threw her trademark energy and passion into all manners of school and commu- nity activities.
Anyone who knows Kay knows she never did anything halfway, whether it was planning parties, supporting and grand- sports teams, filling the house with her vast collection of Santas and other decorations at Christmas, or cheering on Michigan football and KU Jayhawk basketball (what could be She volunteered at St. Academy and Rockhurst High School, and was an active member of Visitation Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister and served with other dear friends on the Pastoral Care Ministry Team. She was an active member of the Kansas City Young Matrons, serving as president from 1979-1980. Kay was also a devoted member of the La- dies of Charity, regularly volunteer- ing her time and energy and serving as president from 1993-1994. She served on the Board of Directors of the main mission, Seton Center, for many years.
Seeing a need to focus Seton fund- raising efforts, she organized and co-founded its annual Soup and Sandwich Dinner, raising $21,000 in 2013. Kay also participated in vari- ous Democratic political campaigns, and completed a strenuous three- year training program to serve as a docent at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. In 2005, she was honored by the Foundation of Greater Kansas City at its of Kay was a lifelong learner and never content to just let life go by. She returned to graduate school at the University of Kansas Medical Center in her 40s, earning her mas- degree in Speech and Language Pathology in 1984. She then worked at Research Medical Center, always foregoing the elevator for the stairs, until she became too ill to work.
Despite her constant whirlwind of activity, Kay always found time for fun and friends. She enjoyed watch- ing all sports (except baseball), loved to play tennis, and also participated in numerous bridge, bunko, canasta and book clubs, making new friends everywhere she went. Kay was happiest, though, when spending time with her family. Her children and grandchildren brought her endless joy and she never missed a birthday party, concert performance or sporting event, where she could always be heard cheering above the rest of the crowd. She treasured holidays and long weekends with the entire family gathered at and Lake in the Ozarks.
On their 50th wedding anniversary in August, she and Ed renewed their vows and celebrated with family and friends in grand style, highlighted by Kay and Ed leading a chorus of Irish Eyes Are Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lois Clancy, her two brothers, Peter and James Clancy, and her son-in-law, Lee Gar- ringer. Kay is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Ed; her three children: Michal and his wife Lisa, Patti and her husband Scott, and Jennifer and her husband David; eleven grandchildren: Holly, Katy and Michael Garringer, Marian Phelps, Conor and Ryan Dolson, Sean and Megan Orvis, Brittni, Cali and Gunnar Strickland; her sisters: Pat Clancy, and Marianne (Cookie) McCall and her husband Jim, sister- in-law Sue McKee and her husband Charlie, dear friend Mary Schell, nu- merous nieces and nephews, and more friends than can be counted. She married Brant Downey in 1968. Patricia taught for 30 years at Lathrop Elementary School, retiring in 1998. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Mary Liles. He was 92. Corky was born September 14, 1921, near Urich, Missouri, the third son of Albert and Inez Long Graef. He became a member of the Urich Presbyterian Church (now Evangel Presbyterian Church) in 1939. He graduated from Urich High School in 1941. He worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard for about a year before being drafted and joining the Army Air Corp in 1943.
He flew 34 missions over France and Germany as an Flight Engineer until the end of World War II. After his honorable discharge and a year working in California, he returned to Urich to work in his blacksmith shop. On March 5, 1949, Corky married Miss Irene Korth of Clinton, Missouri, in Kansas City. To this union were born two children a son, Stephen Phillip, and a daughter, Marsha Ann. Corky worked on the gymnasium addition to the Urich School and, through those contacts, began working as a carpenter in Kansas City, which turned into a 35 year ca- reer with three major construction contractors in the Kansas City area.
Corky was a Scoutmaster for Urich Troop 434, a past member of the Urich Club, a member of the Ingram Post of the American Legion in Urich, a member of Union 67 in Harrisonville, a Lay Preacher, and an active member of the Urich Interfaith Church Council. He was a 32nd Degree KCCH Life member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Kansas City, Orient of Missouri Valley, and a 1989 Honourman in the Knight Com- mander Court of Honor. He was Man of the Year of the Urich Reunion in 2001 and Grand Marshall with his wife in 2000. The Scout Hut he de- signed and built in the Urich City Park bears his name for his work and support of the City of Urich for over 80 years. Corky was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Inez, and his two brothers, William Frank and James Lee, and their wives.
He is survived by his wife, Irene, now of St. Louis, his son Steve and his part- ner David, also of St. Louis, and his daughter Marsha of Lewiston, Maine. She was born June 2, 1924 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Ross Hunter and Estella Clarice (Smith) Moore. Betty was a 1941 graduate of Southwest High School in Kansas City, MO, and received her AA de- gree in 1943 from Graceland College. Betty retired from the Shawnee Mis- sion School District after 21 years.

(660-438-5151) NEIL PORTER Neil Porter, 79, of Platte City, MO passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the NorthCare Hospice House of North Kansas City Hospital. A visitation will be held 1:00 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Platte City; followed by a 2:00 p.m. funeral service, at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. The family suggests contri- butions be given to the NorthCare Hospice House.
Neil was born Feb- ruary 14, 1934 in Pecos, TX to John Robert and Della Roberta (Bradford) Porter. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Con- flict. Neil married Mary Ellen Barker on February 12, 1955 in Pecos, TX. He lived in Alaska and Texas during his military service, afterwards moving to Missouri during the summer of 1966.
At this time, Neil attended the Midwstern Baptist Theological Seminary of K.C., MO; and served as minister for the Tracy (MO) Baptist Church, and the Pleasant Ridge Bap- tist Church of Weston. Neil taught English at Plattsburg, High School for 20 years; and after attending the Missouri College in Inde- pendence, MO, he was a barber in Weston and Plattsburg. Neil enjoyed taking an active role in his commu- nity, serving as an assistant scout- master for Troop in Platte City, and he enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter Katy Cook. He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen of the home; 3 sons Mark Porter, and wife Ann of Lees Summit, MO, Brad Porter, and wife Mary of Bonne Terre, MO, and Clay Porter, and wife Debbie of Riverside, MO; 2 daughters Leah Pease, and husband Bob of K.C., MO, and Elisa- beth Putman, and husband Danny of Butler, MO; 3 brothers Ted Marsh Porter, and wife Grace of Sunnyvale, TX, David Porter, and wife Kelly of El Paso, TX, and Bernard Porter of Amarillo, TX; 1 sister Roberta Hart- ness, and husband Sam of Mesquite, TX; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
